Organizations and individuals are struggling to address the impact of having five distinct generations working side by side in the workplace.  Understanding and communicating with this multigenerational workforce is a challenge for people at all organizational levels.  This interactive session focuses on concrete ways to minimize conflict, maximize communication and build productivity in a multigenerational workplace. 

The Learning Objectives for this session include: Defining the Five Workforce Generations, Describing the Major Influences on Each Generation, Learning How to Adapt Communication Styles to Appeal to Each Generation, and Understanding Important Factors to Consider to Tailor Recruiting, Retention, and Professional Development Across Generations.

About the Presenter(s)

About Dr. Linda S. Gravett

Dr. Linda S. Gravett is an organizational development consultant who has partnered with organizations such as CFM Publishing, Hills Communities, and Toyota over the past 19 years, helping them leverage their resources to ensure success through periods of growth and change.  She is founder and senior partner of Gravett and Associates, an international management consulting firm headquartered in Cincinnati. She is also President and CEO of Just the Basics, Inc., a Northern Kentucky consulting firm, and co-founder of bridgingthegenerationgap.com. 

Dr. Gravett is the author or co-author of books on Emotional Intelligence, Leadership, Business Ethics and Generational Differences.   She is on the faculty of the Executive MBA Program and Leadership Academy at Xavier University and is the Director of their Senior HR Management Certificate Program.

Dr. Gravett has a Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology, an MA in Labor and Employment Relations, and a Bachelor’s in Accounting.  She has lived and worked in Japan, Canada, and Mexico, and brings an international perspective to her work.


About Robin Throckmorton

Robin Throckmorton, MA, SPHR is the President and Executive HR Strategist with Strategic HR, Inc., a human resources management consulting firm located in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Strategic HR, Inc. was a winner in 2008 and 2009 of the Regional Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce Small Business Excellence 10 under 10 Award.  Robin has been a generalist and consultant for over 18 years with healthcare, manufacturing, service, and non-profit organizations creating solutions to help them recruit and retain the best and the brightest employees.

Robin is the co-author of "Bridging the Generation Gap."  She is a frequent speaker for professional associations and conferences on the topics of generational differences, retention, recruitment strategies, and labor trends.  She is a frequent expert speaker for Bureau of Labor Resources.  Robin has been an adjunct faculty member of the University of Cincinnati Xavier University.  She was also recognized as an Enterprising Women of the Year Finalist.

Robin holds a BS from Purdue University in Management and a Master of Arts in Labor and Employment Relations from the University of Cincinnati.  Robin is also certified as a Senior Professional Human Resources by the national Human Resources Certification Institute.  She regularly volunteers for advisory and leadership roles to help serve the human resources profession.
